138 | From Mike Roddie: All the children of this family with exception to Jane were the children of Ann Tett and Robert Horne, however Ann had previously been married to William Swaby who sadly died in 1831 leaving her with her daughter Jane aged just 2 yrs at the time. She then went on to have a relationship with Robert Horne but they never married, they are living together with Jane and their own children in both 1841 and 1851. Robert too sadly died young on the 18th October 1852 and the following year Ann was forced to request financial assistance prior to ultimately ending up in the workhouse. As her legal surname was Swaby this meant all the children and she herself were listed by that surname and it was continued to be used throughout their times in the workhouse and in many cases throughout their lives, it is possible the younger children didn’t realise they were not Swabys as their mother Ann died in 1857 and they were then returned to the workhouse using the surname Swaby. Some of the children used the surname Horne, others used Swaby. The fathers name alternates between Robert Swaby, William Swaby and William Robert Swaby. The settlement document attached to these records states who the father is. | Horne (Swaby), James Edward (I34432895434)
